"Prom Night" is a thesis film written, directed, and edited by Armyda Escobar. The idea came to Armyda at a Fall Out Boy concert when they played "Dance, Dance." Aside from filmmaking, music plays a big part in who Armyda is, so it inspired her to create a story centered around a school dance—specifically prom.
Armyda graduated high school class of 2020, so her year never had a prom. Although Armyda will never be able to relive such a pivotal moment in a teenager's life, she thought the closest to experiencing the chaoticness prom would be if she were a staff member. Hence, the concept of "Prom Night" was born.
"Prom Night" was nominated at the 42nd Brooklyn College Film Festival for "Outstanding Achievement in Screenwriting," "Outstanding Achievement in Producing," and "Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design." It won "Outstanding Achievement in Editing" and "Outstanding Achievement in Location Sound."
